The Chevy Corvette is a sports car that has been designed by General Motors(GM). The history of Chevy Corvette suggests that this racing car has been admired by tens of thousands of people worldwide. This sports car was introduced in 1953 as a show car to compete with European companies like Jaguar and MG. The response was great and the production began in Flint, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri. The purpose was to provide you with best racing experience possible!

The first phase from 1953-1962 was crucial in the history of Chevy Corvette. The 1953 cars were hand built with an attractive fiberglass body. As a sports car, it was weak but still pretty. Many modifications allowed increasing the sale but there was a dramatic collapse in 1955. With the assistance of specialist European team, many radical changes were implemented in the 1956 cars. Many tests were conducted and in 1958, the Chevy Corvette cars were on the right track of success. In between 1961 and 1962, Chevy Corvette became a part of American culture and the racing car was the first choice amongst people in the United States. The second phase (1962-1967) gave the Vette a new name Corvette Sting Ray and the performance was taken to new level.

The fifth phase (1997-2003) in history of Chevy Corvette provided the racing car with cutting edge design and improved consistency. The C4 car was changed to C5 and Corvette celebrated the 50th anniversary in 2003. Later the C5 racing car was converted to C5-R racer, which had an enlarged engine and sleek body. The C5-R achieved victory in many races including the American Le Mans Series in GTS class. The Chevy Corvette had to face tough competition from Ferrari but in the end was victorious.

The C6 racing car introduced in 2005 had a good fuel economy and improved quality. The cars kept on improving each year with few minor changes. The award winning racing car, which is officially known as ZR1, has been introduced in the North American International Auto Show and expected to be in the market as a 2009 model. The history of Chevy Corvette is never ending and it is expected to create new records in the future.

A fellow bought a new 2003 Anniversary model and was out on I-75 for a nice evening drive.

The top was down, the breeze was blowing through his hair and just out side of “Land O’ Lakes” he decided to open her up. As the needle jumped up to 90 mph he suddenly saw a flashing red and blue light behind him.

“There ain’t no way they can catch a Corvette,” he thought to himself and opened her up further. The needle hit 100, 110, 120 and finally 130 with the lights still behind him. “What in hell am I doing?” he thought suddenly and pulled over.

The cop came up to him, took his license without a word and examined it and the car.

“I’ve had a tough shift and this is my last pull over. I don’t feel like more paperwork so if you can give me an excuse for your driving that I haven’t heard before you can go!”

“Last week my wife ran off with a cop,” the man said, “and I was afraid you were trying to give her back!”

“Have a nice night”, said the officer.

“That’s a lot of money” says the old man. Why do they cost so much?” The man answers, “Because they can go 190 miles an hour!” The old man pokes his head in the window and looks around. Leaning back on his mopped, the old man says, “That’s a pretty nice car all right!”

Just then the light changes, so the guy decides to show the old man what the car can do. He floors it, and in a few seconds the speedo reads 120 MPH. Suddenly he notices a dot in his rear view mirror that seems to be catching up to him. Afraid it might be a cop, he slows down to 65 and suddenly whhhoooosshh! Something whips by him going much faster!

“What on earth could be going faster than this Vette?” the man asks himself. Then, ahead of him, he sees a dot coming towards him. Whhoooosshh! It goes by again, heading the opposite direction! And it sorta looked like the old man on the mopped!

“Couldn’t be,” thinks the guy. “How could a mopped outrun a Vette?”

Then again he sees a dot in his rear view mirror! Whhooosshh - Blam! It plows into the back of the Vette! The man jumps out. It is the old man! Of course, the mopped and the old man are in a world of hurt. The guy runs up to the old man and cries, “You’re hurt bad! Is there anything I can do for you?”

The old man groans and replies, “Yes, could you please unhook my suspenders from your side mirror?”

Vettes and Bikes Flying By
A man decided that he was going to ride a 10-speed bike from Phoenix to Flagstaff. He got as far as Black Canyon City before the mountains became just too much and he could go no further. He stuck his thumb out, but after 3 hours, he hadn’t gotten a single person to stop. Finally, a guy in a Corvette pulled over and offered him a ride. Of course, the bike wouldn’t fit in the car. The corvette owner found a piece of rope lying by the highway and tied it to his bumper. He tied the other end to the bike and told the man that if he was going to fast, to honk the horn on his bike and he would slow down.

Everything went fine for the first 30 miles. Suddenly, another Corvette blew past them. Not to be outdone, the Corvette pulling the bike took off after the other. A short distance down the road, the Corvettes, both going well over 120 mph, blew through a speed trap.

The police officer noted the speed from his radar gun and radio to the other officer that he has two Corvettes headed his way at over 120 mph. HE then relayed, and you’re not going to believe this, but there’s a guy on a 10-speed bike honking to pass!

Ressler’s Corette ZR1 comes with a custom VIN plate (No. 0001) and one-of-a-kind paint job in LeMans Blue. He also got to tour the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Ky where he drove his new toy off the assembly line. Although the ZR1 produces 638 horsepower and can circle the Nurburgring in an astonishing 7:26.4, Ressler won’t be flogging it. It’s headed back to Bozeman, Mont. to join the other 45 ‘Vettes in his collection. Which, by the way, includes the first ‘53 Corvette GM ever sold.

A Corvette Lovers Dream Come True

Always want to drive a Corvette? If you like me I have always to drive a Corvette however the price and the need to drive 2 children around has made that impossible….Until now! Hertz announced they have added 500 Corvette ZHZ to the rental fleet with pricing to be expected to be around $179 per day.

The Corvette ZHZ will come with a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 that makes 436 horsepower and a dual-mode exhaust system. All that power is controlled by a paddle-shifted six-speed automatic transmission, and drivers can select from two driving modes (Tour and Sport) for a customized ride.

                  

Hertz says the 500 ZHZ will be stationed at 24 major metropolitan cities starting on June 16th. The first availability will be at major airport locations, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle.

ZR1 Quarter Mile In 11.3 Seconds at 131 MPH

Chevrolet released the New 2009 Vette ZR1 Performance Numbers today and they are off the charts! This beast is SO fast it is ridiculous. The 638-hp ZR1, powered by the supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V-8, cranks through the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds at 131 mph. The ZR1 can hit 60 mph from a standstill in 3.4 seconds, 100 mph in 7.0 seconds, and a top-end of 205 mph. The ZR1’s 0-to-60-mph time is 0.3 seconds quicker than the Z06, and the car is nearly a full second faster to 100 mph.

Want To Own A 2009 Corvette ZR1?

Chevrolet is expecting to produce just 2,000 2009 Corvette ZR1’s this year. If you plan to be a proud owner I hope you have been saving your pennies and not investing in real estate (at least not FL real estate but that is for another post). Are you sitting down? Owning a new ZR1 will cost you over $100,000.

Everything about the ZR-1 has been changed to handle that power, from the six-speed manual transmission to carbon-ceramic brakes. Options include chrome wheels ($2,000) and an interior package that adds sport seats, side airbags, Bose audio and a navigation system ($10,000). Add on the gas-guzzler tax of $1,700 and the destination charge, and you’re looking at a $117,000 Corvette.

Chevrolet says the ZR1, with its 638-horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8, goes from zero to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and has a top speed of 205 mph. According to Inside Line, Chevy sources were careful to point out that the ZR1 is “the fastest Corvette ever,” and that “the ZR1’s 0-60-mph performance is 0.3 second quicker than the Corvette Z06.”

I am sure Chevy will have no problem selling the 2000 planned production ZR1’s. Wonder if Jay Leno has put a down payment on a new ZR1 Vette yet?
